There are currently three Clinical Nurses at the Sydney Melanoma Unit. Nurses are based at Camperdown and at Westmead.

Lyn Taylor
R.N. Bachelor of Nursing, Oncology and Counselling Certificates, Clinical Nurse Consultant

Lyn Taylor was appointed to the role of Clinical Nurse Consultant, Melanoma, in May 2000.  She has specialised in the field of Oncology for 23 years, and has previously held the roles of Nurse Unit Manager Haematology/Oncology (Westmead Hospital) and Clinical Nurse Consultant Palliative Care, Community (Western Sydney Area Health Service). She has also lectured at the University of Western Sydney and the College of Nursing NSW, at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

During her career Lyn has advised many government and non-government committees on nursing care and family needs of the terminally ill. She has represented nursing on the Scholarship and Educational Committee of the NSW Cancer Council, was appointed to the Nurses and Midwives Board of NSW from 2000-2004, and is currently involved with the Rural Access Committee of the Cancer Institute of NSW.

Through her extensive experience of nursing the terminally ill, Lyn has developed a model of care that is planned for each individual to ensure that the requirements and needs of both patients and carers are met in a timely fashion.

Monica Tucker
Graduate Diploma in Counselling, Graduate Certificate Oncology, Surgical Oncology Clinical Nurse Consultant

Monica Tucker was appointed to the Sydney Melanoma Unit in November 2001. She has specialised in Oncology for 18 years. Previous roles have included RN Radiation Oncology, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gynaecological Oncology, Data Manager Oncology Clinical Trials and Associate Genetic Counsellor Hereditary Cancer.

Monica has been involved in patient support and currently lectures on the Graduate Certificate in Oncology at the College of Nursing.

As a Surgical Clinical Nurse Consultant at the Sydney Melanoma Unit, Monica supports patients and their family who have been diagnosed with melanoma. Her roles involves ensuring care is managed and coordinated in an appropriate and timely fashion within the melanoma multidisciplinary team setting.

The position also encompasses: acting as a patient advocate, resourcing information, liaising between all disciplines involved in the care of melanoma patients. Aside from these tasks Monica is also responsible for providing emotional and educational support for patients their relatives and nursing staff on subjects such as lymphoedema and current treatment regimens.

Penni Anderson

Bachelor of Nursing (Hons), Clinical Nurse Specialist (Melanoma and Surgical Oncology)

Penni Anderson registered as a nurse in 1995. She has extensive experience in acute surgical nursing, particularly in the fields of plastics and reconstructive surgery, and surgical oncology.

In June 2001 Penni joined the Sydney Melanoma Unit to assist with minor procedures and tend to post-operative wounds. Since then the nursing clinic has expanded into a comprehensive peri-operative wound management and education service.

As an expert in wound management Penni frequently answers enquiries from General Practitioners, Community Nurses and other health professionals regarding the appropriate peri-operative management of patients who are treated at the Sydney Melanoma Unit .
