Interferon ECOG 1697 Trial Print

Trial status: Open
Treatment type: Immunotherapy
Stage of Disease:
Advanced
Intent of treatment: Recurrence prevention

Title: A phase III randomised study of four weeks high dose Interferon-alpha2b in Stage T3 or T4 or N1 (microscopic) melanoma.

Lay Summary: It has been shown that Interferon alpha-2b, a substance that is normally produced by the body’s immune system, has an anti-tumour activity in advanced melanoma and can help prevent the disease from returning. High dose interferon is given over four weeks to patients who have had melanoma surgically removed. The purpose of this study is to compare the benefits of treatment with Interferon with no additional treatment (the current standard practice) after surgery.
